Happy Xmas (War Is Over)

(Happy Xmas Kyoko
Happy Xmas Julian)

So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear ones
The old and the young

A very Merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For the yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight

A very Merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so happy Christmas
We hope you have fun
The near and the dear ones
The old and the young

A very Merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
War is over, if you want it
War is over now

Happy Christmas

I was waiting for you to post this. The anniversary of his death is coming up. Some anniversary.

I'm hoping it goes by quickly.

One of my favorite songs.

I think I was ten years old when that song came out... that year a great tragedy befell our family when we lost two very young and precious cousins in a car accident. They were only 7 and 6 years old.

It's been well over 30 years now, and two songs trigger this event for me every year: "Happy Christmas" by John & Yoko; and "Feliz Navidad (I wanna wish you a Merry Christmas)" by Jose Feliciano.

As we drove to the cemetary the day of the funeral, those songs were played on the radio. The Lennon song first, then the Feliciano. My mother shut off the radio right after that, and we rode in silence.

"...and what have we done? Another year older, a new one just begun."

Sorry, didn't mean to be lachrymose... the lyrics just got me to thinkin'.

I have a strong connection to this song too. Has to do with my sudden realization at 11 years old that I was not going to die in the Vietnam War.

Jacq: Perhaps if the media on the east coast paid a teeny bit of attention to the rest of the country (the sun does not rise and set over Manhattan Island only) you guys might have known why I haven't posted. heh.
