The fertility gods never had it so good.

The urban myth surrounding this monument to the local Indians says that the city council refused to pay the artist they commisshioned, claiming that he had got the headdress all wrong. So, he gladly "fixed" it for them and then promptly split town.

Why would you say that???

A cruel joke is what it is.

Not only is it an affront to the locals who greeted Lewis and Clark, it is an affront to art in general.

The Astoria city fathers even go so far as to outfit the damn thing with a Santa hat every year.

Nothing but class.

Come on, Catman. If you were an outsider coming into your town and saw that, what would YOU think of it???

You mean after the huge double take and the gales of laughter? I would think "Damn, now here's a town with a good healthy sense of humor that doesnt take itself toooo seriously"
